SHAKOPEE, Minn. -- Despite opposition from Running Aces Harness Park, the Minnesota Racing Commission approved a deal that makes the possibility of racinos in Minnesota a long shot.

On a 5 to 3 vote Wednesday, the commission approved a deal between Canterbury Park and the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community that was announced last week. Under the agreement, the tribe, which owns Mystic Lake Casino, will pay Canterbury $75 million over the next 10 years to increase racing purses. In exchange, Canterbury agrees to lobby against racinos.

Running Aces says the deal could cause them quote "irreparable harm" and they plan to continue to pursue racino.
